Orcs Must Die: I'm so Clever... and Handsome!
« on: December 18, 2011, 06:22:39 PM »

Buy this game when it goes on sale on Steam morons.

This is a thread where we talk about the best way for me to top the shared friendship leaderboards.

How did some of you jerks get such good scores on the first damn level.

Wind Belt best belt. Also full 5 skull clear on Nightmare, what-up.

I need to play more of this. It's pretty entertaining. The only problem I have is I gravitate too strongly to traps.

By the way, Archers are completely awesome.

You get half points for combat kills vs Trap/Guardian kills so this is in fact not a problem.

Getting the best scores gets complicated as you try to weather the earliest waves with only 1/3 of your amazing choke point finished, though!

I wish the trap combos were better and more of a focus. Tecmo's Deception + Tower Defense? I'll take fifty.

Yeah the traps and monster variety tap out a bit too quickly.

Buuuut the game is once again on sale for like $5 total with both DLCs so no excuses, everybody go buy it.

damnit how do I get the skulls on chaos room. I can set up defenses that stop any number of orcs but ogres and gnolls can still fuck my shit up.

Chaos Chamber is one of the first really hard maps in the game to do perfectly.

Equip a Wind Belt and throw Gnolls into lava for instant kills.

Steel Weaver and upgrade your push/spring traps to affect Ogres can also make things easy, but you can also just solo the Ogres once everything else is occupied or dead by back-pedaling while chain head-shoting them. Long halls.

Can someone explain to me the point of the steam traps? They only seem to delay a single orc, and if it you were using it for combos, couldn't you just use the tar pit instead since it's continually active and affects multiple orcs?

I've never used Steam Traps.

Thank you for the notice Dogstar, I have now corrected my position on "The Corner" by about 35,000 ranks.

Steam traps aren't very useful, but it can be fun to combo them with wall pushers and send orcs flying.  Also they can be used to build up your combo if you're going for score.

I noticed that you were setting a few more high scores, Dogstar, so I went ahead and redid about half of the levels overs on Normal to insure that you have more time to enjoy Orcs Must Die! by Robot Entertainment.

Don't worry, I helped a lot of people get more replay value, and on my first time through! So close to unlocking Nightmare but must sleep.

Rebirth was the first map I really had a problem with. With two way splits, you can concentrate your kill corridor into one while you deal with the other until it's built up.

But the three way split on that... First time I've taken rift damage so far.

Holy shit the lightning ring is SO GOOD. Wind belt can go die in a fire for all I care now. Apparently the main thing holding me back from surpassing Doom's scores was not having it.

You cannot surpass my scores if you have to kill Orcs yourself.

I'd tell you more but I think I want to keep setting ridiculous scores(I got a World 91st yesterday on a Nightmare map) before I make a recording of my super secret strategies. So I need to do a reclear of Normal, clear Nightmare, clear the DLC, clear the Nightmare DLC, maybe refine things a bit. We'll see how soon I get a work schedule that gives me more than one day off a week.

btw the Wind Belt is THE BEST ITEM IN THE GAME, PERIOD.

Lightning Ring is the best item for getting Nightmare 5 Skulls, though.

Wind Belt is amazing for knocking things back through your kill corridor, though I'm tending to prefer freezing them in place. I've managed to get some Combo 8 going in certain layouts but most things tend to die before I get more than 4 or 5 applied. Presumably this is not a problem in Nightmare.
