Oh boy the new map.

Other than the fact that it's my new favorite generator room now that lavaland has conduits out the ass, the ravine is a perfect troll hole. I probably got ten assists my first match there by leading people to coming out full speed and having a shrike shred them at the peak.

On the one hand, Raindance was one of my favorite maps in Tribes 2.

But then again, it reminds me that we only have half of a Tribes game.

Every time you spam VRG while standing on an empty flag stand while there are more than zero enemies in the gen room it adds another inch to the mountain of cock that will fuck you for eternity.

Alright, I definitely had a couple of I HAVE BECOME DEATH ETC. ETC. moments tonight. I was basically the one guy defending our base at one point and easily had the most kills of anyone on the server for a hell of a long time; I keep being the only Doombringer on the map, and spamming mines around the flag is hilarious. At one other point we were getting shelled pretty hard by a Juggernaut standing on completely exposed high ground on the other side of the map. I was beginning to be distressed because we had no Sentinels and no one seemed to even notice the guy (herp there are green fireworks around our flag that must mean we're winning derp), but then I remembered I had that Call The President button that I never thought to try before. The first shot of the airstrike descended straight down on the poor sap's head; I think I giggled for an entire minute.

More strikingly, in the TDM match that followed, I played a Brute and got like three Blue Plate Specials (or whatever the direct hit anti-air shots are called) within six seconds with the heavy spinfusor. So that was pretty rad.

I dropped a twenty and unlocked a few classes and grenades and a perk; I'm fairly certain I won't do that again but I can already tell I'll get my money's worth.

Being a DMB on TDM sounds like the worst idea until you luck onto the flag and spend the next five minutes decimating the entire enemy team as they keep running in a straight line directly towards you. :glee:

Maxing out Super Heavy is the best use of experience in the whole game. Any disagreement on this is entirely mistaken.

So I was a DMB sitting on the flag, early game. Set up a force field in the front so at least the pathfinders wouldn't have a straight shot at me. Three of them ski down the slope. I realize I can't shoot them because force field derp.

The first one smashes through my force field at high speed, survives, then goes on to gib instantly on contact with me.

The second one smashes through my force field at high speed, survives, then goes on to gib instantly on contact with me. I'm nudged slightly behind my flag.

The third one smashes through my force field at high speed, survives, caps the flag, then goes on to gib instantly on contact with me, dropping the flag in my hands.

Triple kill, two flag defenses, one flag carrier kill, one flag retrieval. Within the first minute. By literally standing there, doing nothing.

That's powerful stupid. Any halfway decent pathfinders would have destroyed your force field on the way in or taken a different route, and they'd have certainly knocked you away from the flag with some spinfusor shots. Super heavy is still great, but I feel better about having both mines and safety third maxed out. Mines, mines everywhere.

Yeah I figured those were probably some word-class morons there; God knows I've had some on my own teams. But I just like to imagine what that would have looked like to an outside observer, these three guys crashing into me and exploding like chunky meat balloons one after the other. And even without that sort of sheer dumb, I actually do a lot of damage in general with the collisions and the extra mass really cuts down on general disorientation.

I could totally see the appeal of a couple more mines but even just at three right now I'm kind of feeling diminishing returns, though maybe that means I need to work on my positioning!

The main thing with mines, particularly since they have blast radius upgrades, is to keep them far enough apart that they won't blow each other up if one gets set off but a stand clearing spinfusor shot. Also, putting them in sequence is a good idea, because two mine hits will outright kill any light.

I find that force fields are better used to draw fire and funnel people down the routes you want them to take, usually because those routes are full of mines. They also good in parts of the gen rooms because people will go through them without thinking, or inside other parts of your base to make people stop and kill them, potentially getting caught out by your team, or maybe they'll just walk through, and take the damage. I find that tactic particularly useful on Crossfire, because your ship/base is so big, you can put force fields inside and really mess up enemy movement, including the fly through cappers, without having your fields subjected to much long distance fire.
