I really don't like the way they are handling common/uncommon/rare cards in this game. From the screenshots, it looks like there's a rare version of every card that is just indisputably better. Sounds to me like the only way you'll be able to be competitive is have a deck of 60 rare cards.

Oh... I thought that was some kind of evolutionary/upgrade thing.

I think that's the leveling mechanic on display. It's not explained very well(or at all, really) in the link provided, but if you go back to the main page, it indicates that each card will level up through use, becoming more powerful(presumably only within the space of a single game).

Yeah, sorry I linked the page I had open instead of the main page. The way it works is when you play a card, the higher level version of that card goes into your discard pile to be shuffled in later, ie you play the level 1 and now your deck has the level 2 in it. This keeps the game somewhat paced, since nothing has mana costs but it's impossible to play level 3 cards on turn one etc.

This actually sounds really cool and is exactly the kind of thing you could only do in a digital CCG. The reason I assumed the worst is because a lot of these I've seen in the past have basically just been cash cows for their developers to encourage you to make more micro-transactions. It's refreshing to see them actually use a digital platform for something interesting like this. I still don't know if I'd get into it, if only because CCGs are so expensive to stay involved in.

I put in five just so I could get into the beta when it launches. I saw the playtest video and it seems pretty intuitive and with the announcement of android support it might be something to actually do with my tablet. Penny-Arcade linked them yesterday and they're nearly 50k past their funding goal now, with just over two days to go.

I get really excited for tabletop games even though I don't have a group to play them with. I really hope this one gets funded.

edit: the video they did is really bad.

Tenra Bansho Zero is an excellent tabletop RPG. I interviewed the translator/American dynamo behind the project.

It's already well-funded, but more funding means I get more stuff--including a Persona setting book. The bonus rewards for people interested in .pdf copies are piling up, and the books look amazing too.

I guess this can go here: musician/performance artist/Neil Gaiman's wife Amanda Palmer, after raking in almost $1.2 million from her Kickstarter campaign, is now asking local artists to perform for free(well, for beer) on her tour, because, as she claims, she can't afford to pay $35,000 for a backup band.

That's not $35,000 per gig, either. That's $35,000 over the entire tour.

Quick, what's 1.2 million minus $35,000?

It's unreasonable, but not as unreasonable as you might think. Between Kickstarter's percentage and taxes 1.2 million turns into 900k-ish right off the bat. The album itself has high recording costs including multiple full-orchestra tracks. Promotion and booking for a tour is always a nightmare. Then there's reward fulfilment costs. For instance, between pressing, shipping, and labor, the 225k-ish made at the free CD level conservatively drops to 170.

Again, probably can actually afford the band but 1.2 million isn't even close to 1.2 million.

How much is it worth in album sales and concert tickets if fans decide you're a nasty tight-fisted fuck?
