The Life and Times of Jack Kirby, written by Kirby's grandson, including a never-seen play written by Kirby himself.

That is an incredibly modest goal. With 29 days left to go, he's certainly going to run the risk of having to print an enormous appendix to include all the names!

Yep, they've already passed their goal in less than one day. Stretch goals are forthcoming. Maybe they can just print the names really tiny!

http://caseymalone.com/post/53339539674/this-is-not-fucking-harmless

Quote
This guy is no longer just being weird and creepy on the internet. Now he’s writing a book about how to sexually assault women, and he is using something I believe in (Kickstarter) to ask YOU for money to do it. I am offended as someone who believes in the platform, and more importantly I am offended as someone who believes women shouldn’t be treated this way, and that people who say otherwise CERTAINLY should not profit off saying they should.

This isn’t harmless. People come to these boards because they are scared of being humiliated, and they are saying to the world, “Tell me what to do, because I don’t know what to do.” And this guy has chosen to tell them, “You should be a rapist.”

Saw that this morning. The dude has since pulled the more rapey bits down from reddit, but there are still archived versions floating around. Gross as it is, Kickstarter probably won't do anything about it, since it doesn't seem to explicitly violate their TOS.

apparently rape doesn't violate our culture TOS, so why should it violate KS?

Kickstarter has admitted their error, issued a public apology, banned any further PUA materials from the site, and will be donating $25,000 to RAINN.

Doesn't matter. The project's still funded.  ::(:

The apology seems pretty well done though.

If you accept their statement at face value, then you can fault them for not having better filters in place to catch this stuff, but it seems tough to fault them for not acting on an internet complaint with a turnaround time of two hours. I mean, yes in this case the complaints were real and merited and I don't think it took them all that long to confirm that either, but how many hundreds of frivolous or spurious complaints do you think they get about KS projects?

I mean, if this really was a case of due process being too slow, then that sucks , but I don't blame them for following due process in the first place.

Doesn't matter. The project's still funded.  ::(:

The type of people who funded this were going to have bought it no matter what he did. Had he been cancelled here, he'd have gone to Indiegogo, or he'd have dressed it up as sending his son to RPGcamp to prove to girls that men can make RPGs too, or what the fuck ever.

There's enough terrible redditors to fund pretty much any project, and realizing this is one of the earlier steps of learning to adjust to life with reddit on the internet. The guy said he's going to take his show on the road with the extra money, so I look forward to him appearing in public where people can actually punch him.

The Ouya has finally been officially released! It's sold out at Amazon and Gamestop, despite the fact that it still kinda sucks.

Armikrog has a day left. It's a claymation adventure game from Earthworm Jim creator Doug TenNapel and the Neverhood crew, and it looks pretty dang spiffy. They're like 75k short of 900,000 though.

I can't justify giving money to Doug TeNapel.

Yeah, I love me some Earthworm Jim, but that's definitely a situation where I can't overlook someone's beliefs just because I enjoy their creative work. Especially when those beliefs are increasingly being woven into said work.

Plus, you know, objectively Earthworm Jim was a great concept wrapped around a terrible game.
