Funny you should mention that, considering they briefly toyed with the idea of including shots of OWS in the film.

From those clips it's pretty clear that Nolan is actually following the original Knightfall arc fairly closely in many respects. Bane causing generalized havoc, engineering a mass prison escape, etc. All to bring Batman down to a state where he could be destroyed, physically and psychologically.

Most people think of Bane as just a huge, juiced up loony, but he's actually one of Batman's more intelligent opponents, who just happened to be juiced on Venom as a human experiment.

Soooooooooooooo interesting news about Dark Knight Rises. Apparently Anne Hathaway was on the Letterman show when Letterman blurted out that
Batman dies
before backpedaling.

So either Letterman just ruined the ending for millions of people or it's all a stunt and we're about to see a new level of escalation in viral marketing.

Interesting!

David Letterman may spoil "The Dark Knight Rises" - revealing the end

That matter-of-fact "oh yeah I saw the end the main character dies" line coming from a comedian who thinks that stuff is funny gives me doubts.

Hey, Thad.  How long has Bane been in the Batman comics?

Because as I type, Rush Limbaugh is squawking that Bane is a stand-in for Bain Capital.

And he's trying to draw to a conspiracy by Obama to conspiring to release this movie during the campaign.

1993.

It's sorta like that AP review I read that whined that Begins was just trying too hard to be realistic and reflective of real-world issues with that whole "giant laser to disperse fear gas" thing.  (EDIT: Or the people mad because The Two Towers was obviously a tasteless reference to 9/11.)

Anyway.  Even if Limbaugh thinks Bane is a new character, he's smart enough to know how long it takes a movie to get made.  He's being just as disingenuous as when he pretended not to know how birth control worked.

He lies because he knows his audience is not as smart as he is.

Dark Knight Rises trailer recut with Batman: tAS scenes, including most of the original VAs providing the dialogue.
Batman: The Animated Series Rises (Promo) - The Hub
This makes me so very happy, but then I just get sad thinking about Christian Bale.

Meh, I don't really care. I mean, the trailers seem to imply it pretty heavily.

I mean, implied MOST heavily from the trailers and the choice of BAIN as the principle villain, is some sort of terrible injury that puts Batman out of commission for a while. But him putting forth the ultimate sacrifice in the end is sort of hinted at too.

I'm willing to just see what happens when I watch the movie. I trust the people making it enough as film makers that I don't forsee the experience really being effected by someone yelling "BATMAN DIES" in the line up. I expect that good set ups and pay offs and tension and all that stuff won't make anything seem movie ruiningly obvious when and if it happens.

Via BC, Bane co-creator Chuck Dixon weighs in on the silly-ass controversy:

Quote
    Overgrasping Dems?

It all adds to MY Bane capital.

I wonder if the Romeny campaign will contact me?
Quote
Bane was created by me and Graham Nolan and we are lifelong conservatives and as far from left-wing mouthpieces as you are likely to find in comics.

Now, I'll grant that liberal commentators from Ruben Bolling to Jon Stewart have been playing with the Bane/Bain coincidence for weeks now.  But acknowledging that is entirely different from suggesting that it's all a Big Liberal Conspiracy.

EDIT: And the comments quote one Chase Mitchell, tweeting:
@rushlimbaugh You should read up on Bane. He's an oversized drug-addict with anger issues who's been popular since the 90s. You'd love him.

Gaiman has non-spoilery comments from the Premiere:

Quote
I really enjoyed it. I think I preferred The Dark Knight movie, because it had Heath Ledger's Joker and a plot I found hard to predict. Dark Knight Rises doesn't have those things: once the set-up is done you have a pretty good idea of what's going to happen and when (even if you've worked hard to keep yourself spoiler free, as I had), but how it happens is the delight. I preferred the last movie, but this is a better Batman movie, and, I suspect, a better film. (It's my third-favourite film of the year so far: Moonrise Kingdom and The Cabin in the Woods are ahead of it.)

He adds, later, "it’s amazing how much of Neal’s work — and even more so, Dennis O’Neil’s — the film uses".

We'll need to set up a spoiler thread in the next couple days.  Because as I have said before, I am the biggest Batman fan I know but I will be god-damned if I am going to wait in line in 108-degree heat for ANY movie.  Won't be seeing this one opening weekend, and probably not SECOND weekend either.  (When I DO go see it I hope to do it up right and catch it at IMAX.)

In further news, Blyght Industrial, Skurge Aviation and Grimdeth-Despair Incorporated have banded together to protest their unfair negative perception.

What is so much better about IMAX? When I first went I thought it was going to be the really big screen that goes on the ceiling too. But I couldn't actually see what was different between watching it there or in the regular theater.

Not just that, the actual format of the camera is much, much larger, so the entire image has a higher resolution. On regular screens it's scaled down to fit the format of the projector, but IMAX projectors are larger. It's like the different resolutions on a monitor, or for HD vs SD.

Right -- Rises isn't just a movie filmed with standard equipment and upscaled to IMAX size, it is filmed entirely in IMAX from the get-go.

I saw the previous film in IMAX -- in that one, only SOME scenes were shot in IMAX.  But those scenes were SPECTACULAR -- particularly the Hong Kong skyline sequence.

Welp, Sims got ahold of this one.

Quote
Also hilarious: The fact that Limbaugh apparently thinks that "rises" and "lights up" mean the same thing.

And a weird little talking point has surfaced among the comment trolls:

Quote
Why doesn't this article say the truth, that the Bane/Bain thing was started by Democrat advisor Christopher Lehane and a bunch of liberal bloggers and that Limbaugh was responding to that? Most other major comics sites that have posted this today, like Robot 6, have already had to come clean on that point and post corrections.

Er, okay, except that there is actually a difference between noting a coincidental similarity between two things and suggesting that said coincidental similarity is actually an elaborate, decades-spanning CONSPIRACY.
