Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

Nrama has some fairly intelligent speculation that, while the first two movies dealt with terrorism, the third could focus on the economy, in the form of contrasting those characters' class with Batman's.

It would certainly be interesting, but it's worth noting that the Dark Knight dealt with terrorism by saying we need to let people get down to the nitty-gritty and just torture folks or we'll all die.  Makes me wonder if Nolan would approach class-conflict with the eye of "Poor people just need a defender to keep them safe and keep them in their place"

Nono, Dark Knight said we need to let people get down to the nitty-gritty and just SPY ON EVERYBODY or we'll all die.

Sims plays with it too, plays up the "dark mirror to Batman" aspect that is really at the core of (nearly) all the villains.  He adds that Bane, like Doomsday, was created for one specific moment and nobody's really known what to do with him since (though Simone's done a good job reinventing him), but of course that works fine in a movie.

Course, the big question is whether he'll break Batman's back.  Seems like if he didn't, it would be like on Smallville where they built Doomsday up for an entire season only to have him kill...Jimmy, and then go away forever and never be heard from again.  (I think.  That's when I quit watching.)  But on the other hand, how do you resolve that in a 2.5-hour movie?

Somebody talked about the potential of the third Nolan movie as an adaptation of Knightfall back when it came out.  But I don't really see Nolan using Robin or Azrael.  Aside from that we're left with the question of how Bruce recovers, and while it could make for some great drama seeing him push through the pain to victory, months of intensive physical therapy wouldn't make for a very good montage scene.

Dark Knight DID already give us the precedent that there are other dudes going out and dressing up like Batman.  I could see doing a DKR-style thing where Batman attempts to train a team of successors, and that would parallel the original Knightfall story somewhat.  Hell, the "Batman is replaced by someone who becomes corrupt" element of Knightfall would work well here, I just don't think Valley is a character worth pulling out of storage to do it.

Or -- hm.  Selina (mostly) gives up her life of crime to fill the void left by Batman and becomes a heroine to help bring Bane down.

You know, that sounds pretty plausible to me.

Given the title, I'm going to guess that either "Batman recovers" or "There's a new Batman" are the likely scenarios.

Or they could be total jerks and do a "The Dark Knight was actually x from the second movie all along."

...oh shit, Barbara Gordon was in that, wasn't she?

It's best not to get into Barbara Gordon's tangled and retconned history, and Nolan's choice not to call any attention to Gordon's daughter in TDK suggests that he agrees with me.  Having a Batgirl that much younger than Batman would require a "10 years later" thingy.

Anyway -- let's not forget, either, that Batman ends the second movie on a really down note, vilified and hunted for a crime he didn't commit.  His rise must inevitably involve regaining the public's trust and becoming a source of hope.

You know, it seems really weird that we have this Batman thread and haven't discussed anything regarding The Dark Knight Rises since all of that teaser stuff was put out a while back.

At least in my case, I'm avoiding everything until the trailer hits. Even then, won't be after I've seen it in theaters that I'd be ready to start picking it apart.

I'm not anti-goggles, but for my money I was really hoping for the cat ears and cape.

Either way, it'll still be way better than the previous two film costumes.

So the Dark Knight Rises teaser is pretty meh in every sense except the confirmation of Bane.

As if the constant talk and casting of Bane didn't already confirm it.

Still vastly more interesting than The Dark Knight teaser.

Well here's what she's actually going to wear!

Eh, it's pretty much the same costume up until you get to the head. I guess Anne Hathaway doesn't look good sporting a short, boyish haircut?

I do like how the concept art actually looks heavier than the actual actress herself.
