Having your game rushed out the door can happen once or maybe twice before it's your fault for overpromising/not being efficient with deadlines. I mean, out of the 5 games they've done as Obsidian (plus two expansions for NWN2) you're looking at Dungeon Siege III as the only one that isn't relatively buggy.

In both the demo and the retail game I had a game-breaking bug at the end of the intro zone that kept me from continuing my game. DS3 was not very bug-free for me. :(

O hey, that thing I've been banging on about. You know, the Obsidan kickstarter? Closes today and has met its craziest, maddest funding goals.

EDIT:
Apparently I was wrong, they have even madder funding goals. Copypasta:
Quote
OK! After much team deliberation we have one final ultimate stretch goal. At $4.0m we will be enhancing the whole game. We will use live instrumentation for the soundtrack, add developer in-game commentary, and use every dollar between $3.5m and $4m to enhance the game. Also at $4.0m Chris Avellone will be forced to play Arcanum.

Which to me, is a pretty big signal that they've gone mad and delirious with success.

The graphical style of Arcanum is off putting to me for the same reason the graphical style to Torment is. I played the shit out of Torment but it was very hard to get into. Arcanum, I've never gotten past the first town. Maybe I'll do it this month sometime.

I couldn't get past the first map of Arcanum.  Massive, overcomplicated chargen, with a lot of choices I felt I did not understand any of the impact of, followed up with an unintuitive and difficult interface.

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

I'll buy that.  Whole lotta muddy browns and identical-looking generic dudes in tan hoods.

See, I remember the chargen being a lot of fun, with a variety of legitimately funny backstories to choose from.  And unlike something like DA:O, your origin was essentially a handful of stat adjustments which I remember being pretty straightforward.

I don't remember the interface being unintuitive, either.  Worked a lot like Diablo, didn't it?  I'll grant it's been a few years but that's my recollection.

I wanted to play Arcanum, but my friend wouldn't lend me his copy because he'd borrowed it from some other guy.

It sat in his CD rack for like FOUR years.

It's on GOG.  There was a half-off sale recently but even at full price it's very reasonable.
