I do want the new holy symbol, as pretty much all of my attacks are implement-based. And, no, my current holy symbol isn't magical.

It's not that the rules specificially say that it doesn't provoke; in fact, it doesn't specifically state anything to do with that at all, and the intentional omission is the key here.

On pages 56 and 270-271, Melee, Ranged, Close and Area are all described seperately. They are indeed distinct and mutually exclusive.

On pages 270 and 271, you'll notice that Ranged attacks and Area attacks specifically state that they provoke an attack of opportunity, while, it's not stated at all for Melee attacks or Close attacks. And, on page 290, where it describes opportunity attacks, it mentions again that Ranged and Area power provoke, but intentionally leaves out Melee attacks (for obvious reasons) and Close attacks (maybe for less than obvious reasons).

So, while there is no rule that says "Close attacks don't provoke", the Close keyword box on pg. 271 doesn't specifically provide for an attack of opportunity, which means you don't get one. Sorry. Does that make sense?

The book doesn't say specifically that Close attacks do not provoke AoOs.  It just doesn't say that they do.

It says that Area attacks provoke (distinct in that they do not have to begin in an adjacent square), as well as Ranged attacks and certain moves.  (Close Attack pg 271, Opportunity Attacks pg 290)

Also.  I think I fucked up by allowing Norondor an opportunity attack on non-adjacent enemies.

no no no, my fault.  i hope you enjoyed stabbing mans for free.

in my opinion, it's my responsibility to enforce the rules, and the players shouldn't feel guilty for doing things that the GM lets them get away with.*  if you know better, feel free to correct me, but I definitely don't want people paging through the rulebook in the middle of combat or something.


* this is not me condoning cheating, just forgiving ignorance of a new system.  mainly my own.

All right, kids, it's time to update your sheets and get them in to me.

If you're still using Kemru's template, please switch to this.

For Level 4, pick 1 new feat, add +1 to two of your stat scores, and add +1 to your level modifier for attacks, defenses, skill/ability checks, and initiative.

Also, before you do all your final maths, take into account any loot you may have picked up.  As far as I know, the loot was distributed thusly:

Deathcut Hide Armor - Doom
Battleforged Plate Mail - Burrito
Nnase's Sharpened Rib - Norondor
Holy Symbol of Hope - yeoz
Duelist's Short Sword - MadMAxJr
Green Koboldskin Leather Armor - unclaimed, so it goes to Detonator
