Again, inspired by a discussion I had with my meatspace friends, those philistines. The movies on this list don't have to be in the comedy genre, but they should be included because they made you laugh.
So here are my top ten, feel free to post yours
I'll also give a little blurb explaining why it's on my list so you have something to read other than a boring list
So here they are, in no particular order
1. The Big Lebowski
I don't think I need to explain why this is here to this crowd (though I had to to my friends because they are heathens) This movie is fucking amazing in almost every way. I'd probably include it on my top ten favorite films of all time, if someone ever pointed a gun at my head and forced me to make that list.
2. Spaceballs
What's that you say? Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and History of the World part 1 are superior Mel Brooks films and Spaceballs is overrated? I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound effects guy from Police Academy. But seriously, those are great movies too. But they don't have Rick Moranis force gripping a guy's balls.
3. American Psycho
Bale pulls off probably the best acting job of his career playing a guy who you should hate but don't. The world he lives in and the people he knows are, if anything, even more shallow and empty than himself. The only ones you even feel sorry for are the hooker and the homeless guy. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go. I have to return some videotapes.
4. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Yep, the fans are retarded and have made me sick of every single possible quote in the entire movie. Nope, that doesn't mean the movie isn't fucking amazing. Actually, I can still get a chuckle out of "Perhaps he was dictating" but that's about it.
5. Airplane!
Friday, you can't be serious, putting Airplane! on this list. Get ahold of yourself! *smack*
6. Ghostbusters
Again, not a film I need to explain to this crowd. Rick Moranis doesn't force ballkick anyone, but aside from that, this movie doesn't have any flaws.
7. The Jerk
Steve Martin's first starring role, and probably his best. Millions of people have developed a deep seated hatred of cans due to this movie. The sequence with Martin and Bernadette Peters lying in bed while Martin talks about how many days is probably one of my favorite comedy scenes, period.
8. Good Morning Vietnam!
I feel like I need to put at least one Robin Williams film up here, and it came down to GMV and Mrs Doubtfire, and GMV has an edited tape of Nixon talking about his balls. It doesn't have James Bond being hit in the head by a fruit, but not everything can be as perfect as Ghostbusters and The Big Lebowski.
9. Groundhog Day
Ned? Ned Ryerson!?
10. Liar Liar
I'm not a huge fan of Jim Carrey's comedy (though I think he is a great dramatic actor) but this movie just... well, let's just say that to this day I still grab Air Fresheners and breath in deep before saying "I'm takin' this."
