Groundhog Day is probably my favorite movie ever, but I've yet to see The Big Lebowski or The Princess Bride, so what the fuck do I know.

I almost forgot I'm the only person on the planet that like My Blue Heaven. I still don't understand why everyone doesn't see how Rick Moranis, Steve Martin and Joan Cusack together is amazing, independent of everything else great it has going for it.

My favourite thing about My Blue Heaven is how it's the sequel to Goodfellas.

Well, most Tarentino films are hilarious between the ludicrously violent parts. And sometimes during. Not sure which is the funniest one though...

Duck Soup is the best Marx Brothers movie.  Animal Crackers, A Night at the Opera, and most of their work from that era is also pretty great.

I don't know WC Fields as well as I'd like to but It's a Gift is a great example of the era where actors were transitioning from silent films to talkies and from shorts to features.  The Music Box occupies a similar position in Laurel and Hardy's career.

Going back to the silent era, Steamboat Bill Jr is the best-known Buster Keaton feature, and it still holds up.  Even if you've never seen the movie you've seen the part where the front of the house falls down around him -- and even if you've never seen the original, you've seen it homaged somewhere.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a classic too, and I think it definitely qualifies as a comedy despite (or because of) its edge.  (While we're on the subject, I'd list another Milos Foreman movie, Man on the Moon, as the best Jim Carrey movie.)

And we've been working over the Mel Brooks library but nobody's mentioned The Producers yet.  That should definitely go on there.  I'd tip the original Mostel/Wilder version, but the musical is solid too.  (Better live, though.)

Back to the Future's great.  I'd say The Jungle Book is my favorite animated Disney movie.  Most of Pixar's oeuvre qualifies as great comedy too.

And while the Pink Panther series ran too long and was definitely a case of diminishing returns, the first few films are still great.

And talking of long-running series of the like we don't really see anymore, The Thin Man is still a lot of fun to watch.

I can't really get behind Man in the Moon. I mean, I love Kaufman, and... kinda like Jim Carrey, and he does a fucking incredible Andy Kaufman impression. But it just feels like... well, I'm watching Jim Carrey doing such a flawless imitation of these Kaufman bits that really, I'd rather just be watching those. And there's this whole subplot of "oooh, I'm all these people, what is my real identity, do I have one? I don't know!" But it doesn't really go anywhere and ends up completely forgotten about.

But out of everything mentioned so far I'll have to second or third or whatever Dr. Strangelove. It's the one movie I can watch on a damn near yearly basis and laugh with it every single time.

Life of Brian hasn't been mentioned, and it's neck and neck with Grail as far as I'm concerned.

And I'm glad someone got The Producers on here. The only thing I dislike is that one of my exes was Zero Mostel's niece or something and it's really distracting recognizing hints of an attractive woman's features on such an extraordinarily ugly man. Actually, that probably makes it better.

"A Toy?"
"Yes! I've worked very hard and I'm going to buy myself a toy!"

Yeah, Man on the Moon was sort of a tangent in the middle of a list of legit classics.  I still think it's Jim Carrey's best role, though.

For Pure Carrey I'd probably go Dumb and Dumber.  It is a movie that delivers what it promises, does not attempt any level of depth or complexity, and is also a thoroughly enjoyable thing to visualize every time Jeff Daniels starts getting all Sorkin-Pretentious on Newsroom.

On the subject of the Farrellys, Something About Mary was pretty great and Outside Providence is underrated.  None of them all-time greats or anything, but perfectly watchable.

I didn't really get I <3 Huckabees on my first two attempts to watch it, but it's grown on me a lot. Being John Malkovich was great but I'm not sure it holds up well.

I am flabbergasted not to see Hot Fuzz on here.

At this rate if we keep this up for twenty more pages we'll have essentially arrived at an identical list to AFI's 100 years 100 laughs, with one or two modern additions.

I ♡ Huckabees requires the DVD special feature to be a complete experience.

I'll add that (with the special feature) to my list, and also A Life Less Ordinary and Unconditional Love, bringing it up to 5.

There's not nearly enough Woody Allen in this thread to approximate ANY AFI list.

...okay so Sleeper is pretty great.

Take the Money and Run is pretty good too.

With every great new movie I see and with each passing year, I start to think maybe Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure isn't the greatest movie of all time. Maybe I'm just remembering it being stupendous when it's only so-so.
It was on TV today.

I swear to god, I would take a bullet to the head before saying it's a bad movie.

Dad mostly took me to see it because the high school scenes were filmed at his high school.

I'm sure we'd have caught it anyway, but that was his original reason for seeing it.
