...Looks like McCain's actually gaining ground in the polls.  But I don't expect that to last with his latest round of buffoonery.

::D:

Poll: independents like McCain substantially less after seeing the "Celebrity" ad.

Yes, well, I want to see the poll after the "Nations don't invade other nations" comment sinks in.

I mean, come the fuck on.  That's an infinitely better sound bite than even the Primal Scream and if I don't see it used with the same sort of brute force then I will personally slap every democrat in Congress.  Even if Obama wins.

I've been seeing a lot of focus being placed on Obama's pro-choice votes, so it's clear they're getting pundits and fundy grassroots movements to hit that point hard.  It's kind of a shame the only thing they have up their sleeves is leftovers from 2004, but it's probably a stronger hand for them than trying to get people to dislike Obama because he's popular.

4.  The Chelsea Clinton joke. At a Senate Republican fundraiser in 1998, when Chelsea was just 18, he took aim at both her appearance and that of the then attorney-general . "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?" he asked guests. "Because her father is Janet Reno."

This man is still alive.

Oh, and another "whoops!" from the McCain team.

Like, did they just get kids who're used to just mashing up whatever they find online or what?

Let's pray for rain, to stop the baby killer

The worst part is that, if it DOESN'T rain, they won't take that as a sign that God thinks they're a bunch of assholes.

But the thing is, they have to be careful about overplaying that hand.  It's all part of McCain's tightrope act -- he has to get the evangelicals to care enough to turn out and vote for him, but he can't lose the independents.  And most independents aren't too keen on losing Roe.

The flipside is that I've actually been hearing buzz about whether McCain would do well to pick a pro-choice running-mate, like Ridge.

When Regulation Is Warranted, John McCain Acts. John McCain does not believe in prescriptive regulation like “net-neutrality,” but rather he believes that an open marketplace with a variety of consumer choices is the best deterrent against unfair practices. John McCain has always believed the government’s role must be rooted in protecting consumers.

That's some beautiful cognitive dissonance, there.

"The government's role must be rooted in protecting consumers.  That's why I oppose prescriptive regulation that protects consumer rights."

I guess if you operate under the basic assumption that whatever leads to the most corporate profits is somehow the best thing for the consumer base, then it makes moon-sense.

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

I thought it was more a case of "We don't get this 'Net Neutrality' thing, but nor does anyone else!", really.

Benefit of the doubt: it may just be a communication error.  A lot of people think the term "net neutrality" is shorthand for "opposition to net neutrality."

It is also safe to assume that John McCain understands the concept of net neutrality even less than Ted Stevens.

I think it's also safe to assume that the people putting words on his website are not Ol' "I don't know how to use a computer" McCain himself.

Sure, but I have strong suspicion that the people who post and manage the content are not at all the same people generating it.

In short: John McCain is dangerously unaware of things he is directly responsible for.

I thought this was a news thread.

Hey Google, what are Obama and McCain reading?

John McCain
Republican candidate for President
Reading: Wall Street Journal, Arizona Republic, Drudge Report, ESPN, Forbes, Fox News

Barack Obama
Democratic candidate for President
Reading: Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, ESPN, Talking Points Memo, Barack Obama Blog, Daily Show

Either some unimaginative copywrighter is feeding us a line, or these two men are walking parodies of themselves.

Reading the Daily Show is hard.  I respect that.
