...Looks like McCain's actually gaining ground in the polls.  But I don't expect that to last with his latest round of buffoonery.

Actually, I was planning on exercising some self-control and not outright baiting you, but since you showed up anyway...

Via a surprisingly fair-and-balanced Fox News:

Quote
“I’m not interested in getting into a tit for tat. These negative ads, these negative attacks, spending all this time talking about me instead of talking about what he’s going to do - that’s not going to lower your gas prices,” said Obama.

No wonder you love McCain so damn much: he doesn't want to discuss ideas, just people.

You know, I did notice a correlation between McCain's negative campaigning and a ten-cent drop at the pump...

Back to McCain catching up to Obama:

I'm still in my "People are never going to buy this crap, it's asinine; this is just a blip in the polls" phase.  But it would probably behoove Obama to behave as if I'm wrong.  Cenk Uygur points out Kerry's failure to defend himself, and his failure to criticize Bush.

Bush was at John McCain's birthday party when Katrina hit.  That's a fucking ad right there.

...Christ, what's stopping US from making that ad and putting it on YouTube?

EDIT: Unsurprisingly, it's been done:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmZU3yWva18
Too damn long, but not bad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRar6yKZE8g
Much more concise, but less catchy.

And one from Cenk himself:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZPAXCLIjDY&feature=related
Doesn't work at all as a commercial, but not a bad bit of punditry.

...Anyhow.  Whether on this subject or another, we could totally make us a viral video.  Maybe we should start a thread.

Brad for President.

No, wait.

Sharkey for President.

No, wait.

Gutsman's Ass for President.

If you're going to use that as a joke on anybody, present it in a way that the following image doesn't appear.

Paris Hilton running.

Funniest part: her ad has more actual policy then every Obama and McCain ad combined.

Pretty good start.  Hits McCain where he's strongest, ties him to Bush, and uses his own words against him.

Next up, I want to see one with the clip of McCain saying he doesn't know much about the economy.  Maybe follow it up, Daily Show-style, with him claiming he never said that.

...Forget that.  Obama's next campaign ad should be:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3h_ZbW2REcI
(Money shot at 27 seconds.)

Forget merely being unqualified to be President.  The man is out of his fucking mind.  This is beyond a series of gaffes; he doesn't even know where he IS.

Open Secrets: Troops Deployed Abroad Give 6:1 to Obama

The headline's misleading -- the numbers cover the entire 2008 campaign season, including the primaries.  So I think what it REALLY shows is a roughly even split in Democrats and Republicans among the overseas troops, with the Democrats skewing almost entirely toward Obama and the Republicans much more stratified among their various primary candidates.

That said, it IS relevant that Ron Paul got 4.25x as much money as McCain.  The troops deployed overseas who donated Republican donated, overwhelmingly, for the only Republican who wanted to end the war.  And when I say "overwhelmingly", I mean "more than all the others combined".
