Oooh, the instant-death "invented the Internet" fuckup.

Let's go home.  The election is over.

An interesting article on positions with science

I'm pleased that McCain is interested on throwing a 5K credit on ZEV's specifically.

Quote
Obama: Specifically, I will implement a market-based cap-and-trade system to reduce carbon emissions by the amount scientists say is necessary: 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.
McCain: 60% below 1990 levels by the year 2050.

I, uh, I guess that's McCain's idea of striking a middle ground.

*violent twitch*

I wasn't aware of this one.

Okay. John McCain went through the hell of warfare and goes out of his way to remind us. He was engaged in bombing missions during Vietnam, which I imagine wouldn't be too far off from what he advocates in song. And to top it all off, he wants to become the president and commander-in-chief.

So, riddle me this: Shouldn't he take this kind of thing more seriously? And isn't that kind of mockery usually reserved for foot soldiers who were none too polished in the first place?

George Will: McCain Loses His Head.

Now, whether Will has any actual influence anymore is hard to say.  Conservative intellectuals are something of a dying breed, replaced by shouting bullies.  And it's hardly a ringing endorsement of Obama.  But still and all, I'd say this is pretty damning.

Got my California Voter's Packet today, so my wish for more point-counterpoint has been granted.  Now I get to read up on arguments like "Letting out 45,000 people busted on ridiculously petty drug charges is dangerous, because their time in prison has made them more dangerous criminals.  So let's keep throwing people in on ridiculously petty drug charges so they can become more dangerous criminals too."

Good stuff.

Yeah, my voting on props usually boils down to who's endorsing each side.  If you get two pages of entries that all end with "Paid for by [same organization]", I'm probably voting the other way.

So uh it turns out Freddie Mac has been paying McCain's campaign manager $15K per month since 2005.

NYT:
Quote
Freddie Mac’s roughly $500,000 in payments to Davis & Manafort began immediately after Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae in late 2005 disbanded an advocacy coalition that they had set up and hired Mr. Davis to run, the people familiar with the arrangement said.

From 2000 to the end of 2005, Mr. Davis had received nearly $2 million as president of the coalition, the Homeownership Alliance, which the companies created to help them oppose new regulations and protect their status as federally chartered companies with implicit government backing. That status let them borrow cheaply, helping to fuel rapid growth but also their increased purchases of the risky mortgage securities that were their downfall.

On Sunday, in an interview with CNBC and The New York Times, Mr. McCain responded to a question about Mr. Davis’s role in the advocacy group through 2005 by saying that his campaign manager “has had nothing to do with it since, and I’ll be glad to have his record examined by anybody who wants to look at it.”

I gotta tell you -- I really wish the election were next Tuesday instead of 5 weeks later.  But on the other hand, as I've said before, I don't think there will be any absence of bad economic news between now and then.

So what do you think will happen?  Will the guy get the boot, resign, or will they just pretend nothing is wrong and claim any sort of reaction is overblown?

Quote
Jill Hazelbaker, a spokeswoman for the McCain campaign, did not dispute the payments to Mr. Davis’s firm. But she said that Mr. Davis had stopped taking a salary from his firm by the end of 2006 and that his work did not affect Mr. McCain.

Looks like I guessed right  ::(:

Oh for fuck's sake.

This pisses me off just as much as when they did it to Al Gore.

"without the funding of measures I helped to pass, this--" "OMG LOL DID U SAY U INVENTED THAT"

And now to contradict myself embarassingly: I'm a busy man and haven't been keeping up on this shit so does anyone have a link to whatever this "meltdown" of McCain's was

"Al Gore invented the internet" is partially responsible for the last 8 years of our lives.  EIGHT.  YEARS.

So I have no problem jamming it right up McCain's ass, thankyouverymuch.

Phrasing in here just made it sound like he flipped off a box of kittens on TV IN ADDITION to the retarded "I'm suspending my campaign" nonsense.  When I heard meltdown, I figured something more entertaining than him pretending to do something by doing nothing.

Too much to hope for, I guess?
