Don't fool yourself.  The "Palin/McCain Ticket" isn't just a gaffe by the idiot herself.  She's a lot damn more interesting, gets more coverage, completely overshadows her running mate whenever they show up together, and most damning, everybody talks about her in terms of "She could be President!" rather than "She could be the Vice-President."  (Thad may be relieved to see that this phenomenon almost never happens with Obama/Biden.)

So yeah, Obama's running against Palin in the media, which is fine.  Only the most brainwashed people in America would honestly see Sarah Palin as the proper choice.

Palin may excite the extremist right, but she's losing against everyone else.  And at the end of the day, as Americans hear more and more about the failings of our economy, all those things about big spending, and raising taxes, and leaving Wasilla in financial ruin come to light and have a negative impact on her and McCain.

It's simpler than that.  Every time she shows up on TV, she embarrasses herself...and every time she DOESN'T show up on TV, she embarrasses herself.

So yeah, Obama's running against Palin in the media, which is fine.

I don't really think that's been the case for the past two weeks.  I think McCain's getting a lot more press right now -- and most of it is bad.  He's the one shining a spotlight on himself as the guy who's going to fix the economy, and then utterly failing at it.

And he's CERTAINLY spending more time TALKING to the press than she is.

Palin can't name any Supreme Court case she disagrees with except Roe:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn9WduykYpA
She can't even pull out Dred Scott.  Dred Scott is a fucking GIMME.

Shit, *I* can rattle off a list of Supreme Court cases I disagree with.  Off the top of my head.  Granted, most of them are from the last 8 years, but STILL.

August has a pretty thorough rundown on the fact that she's not just a liar but a bad one, someone who can't even bullshit an answer but just sits there like a deer in headlights.

Tomorrow night is going to be interesting.

...that's like a 0 more than the usual rate for one flick.  There goes another soccer mom being given preference over a more experienced blond chick.

I'll be honest, other than Roe vs Wade I can't name any US court decisions off the top of my head either.

Except Miranda vs Arizona, but I only know that from exploring Wikipedia. Palin is too busy to sit up all night clicking links.

Decisions that Palin would disagree with?  I'd think Lawrence v. Texas, Griswold v. Connecticut, Eisenstadt v. Baird, things like these would be right at the top.  Hell, Roe v. Wade isn't even the most precedential abortion case - Planned Parenthood v. Casey is.

You're not running for vice president.  I don't think you're even a lawyer (of course, neither is Palin).  The bar's lower.  If you want the highest executive office in the land, you should fucking know something about the Supreme Court.

Then YOU shouldn't be in a position where you might be nominating our next few Supreme Court Justices EITHER.

Decisions that Palin would disagree with?  I'd think Lawrence v. Texas, Griswold v. Connecticut, Eisenstadt v. Baird, things like these would be right at the top.

Even if she DOES think Griswold was a bad decision, she can't say that out loud.  The only effect of doing so would be to scare off MORE moderate voters.

And that could be the problem too -- maybe she DOES have some answers but knows better than to say them out loud...yet doesn't have any obvious backups.

Frankly her use of the phrase "states' rights" in reference to Supreme Court decisions may indicate she was thinking of Brown v Board -- Dixiecrats, and then Republicans, have been using "states' rights" as a euphemism for racism for over fifty years.

Of course, all this is just conjecture.  It could be that she really is just as dumb as she seems.

A mixture of both, if the current administration is any indication.

Possible.

She could have wanted to have said 'The New York Times' here, but that doesn't line up with The McCain Doctrine.

Still better than "all of them".  I can conjure up two separate Homer quotes that match THAT response.

Now I'm imagining Palin spacing out during the debate for fifteen minutes while daydreaming about the Land of Chocolate.

And it's awesome.

Even better if it's the Land of Chocolate in the Simpsons Game.
