George Will's been very critical of Palin, and Christopher Buckley got fired from the National Review, the paper his freaking FATHER founded, for endorsing Obama in The Daily Beast.

More on the Republican intellectuals (no, that's not an oxymoron, but it's becoming one) jumping ship: NY Times, LA Times, UK Telegraph.

RNC spends tons of money shopping for clothes and makeup for Sarah Palin

Curious how relevant this is, as I have no idea.  Is it maybe standard fare for candidates to be wardrobed up by the party?  Men's suits don't come cheap either and I'm hesitant to laugh at this one until I'm sure it's not some kind of "oh, that crazy woman" dig.

Because god knows there's enough to roll my eyes at her for without inventing stuff.

...It's not a huge issue, but OTOH after all the time they spent on John Edwards's haircuts it's fair game.  Plus, the notion that she's just one of the folks tends to go out the window.

The way I look at it, it's just not the wisest use of campaign dollars.  Even HALF that kind of money on wardrobe and makeup would seem pretty extravagant and leave them a little less strapped for cash.

After the time they spent complaining about it, it's hypocritical too.

Since McCain has received $84 million in government funds for September & October, taxpayers have been footing the bill for Palin's designer fetish. We're talking $2500 Valentino jackets here. She seems to have skipped dry cleaning, and just gone on to buy entirely new wardrobe each week. The campaign says the wardrobe will be "tossed in a charity bin of some sort" after the election. Riiiggghhht. Can't complain too much, that's $150,000 less to be used on advertisements.

Michelle Obama, in contrast, has worn cutting-edge designer clothing, but also a $35 H&M. Michelle's fan fashion blog goes into further details, showing that she skews for floral patterns and open shoulders, rather than the post-Soviet CEO Here Me Roar angle Palin has been pimping.

Barack's fashion is a crisp statement. White, pale blue shirts. Perfectly pressed. Suits that aren't overly fitted / fancy. Intelligently has avoided boxy shouldering and cuffing. Well-chosen accessories. The tailoring is nearly unnoticeable, and thus approachable. Gen X professional. Terrible shoes though.

McCain... Well... He wears more makeup than Palin.

And on an unrelated note, Sarah Palin still has no idea what a vice president actually does.

To be fair, giving the correct answer - "Usually Nothing" - kind of takes the spotlight off her.  And we can't have that.

Well, ideally Usually Nothing, unless you're a beard twirling behind the throne grand vizier type.

Which is more than a little frustrated by Cheney's clean shavenness. Touche, you rat fucked son of a bitch.

I suspect your motives in miraculously making Cheney look like a non-cadaver. In comparison, like.

That's funny, because I was going to comment on how cadaverous McCain was looking.

According to HuffPo article it's the RNC that foot the bill, not McCain's campaign.  Not positive here, but I'm pretty sure the RNC is a separate entity that does not use public funding, just the vast wealth of its members.
