MGS4 has 90-minute cutscenes.

That is actual movie-length cutscenes.

They'd better have pause, rewind, fast-forward, and skip.

The good news is that you can now skip or pause the scenes.

Scene selection menus should come equipped on this sucker.

I'm with Bongo.  If it's a 90 minute movie it had better fucking have every feature seen on a standard DVD.  Especially the one where you can hit the power button and start again later exactly where you left off.

Wow... long game is long... and not a game apparently.

You know, from all the hype up until this point, I was sort of getting the feeling that MGS4 was gonna be a better playing but shorter and less elaborate Metal Gear. I don't know why, but I think it has something to do with the fact that it SEEMS like so much has already been shown to us in the trailers that how much more can there really be left to see in the actual game itself? But now that I think about it, that's a retarded mindset to have. This is a Hideo Kojima game, whatever has been shown to us in the trailers is only a tiny part of what the game is really like at best and devious misdirection at worst (and most probable).

I mean, did anyone see that fairly resent trailer where Old Snake has a flash back to MGS1 where it looks like you get to walk around the outside of the Shadow Moses base with MGS4 level graphics and mechanic and crazy weather effects? Why would Kojima suddenly reveal that? The guy's clearly trying to fuck with people as always.

90 minutes though, are you sure that isn't someone's idea of a joke?

Hideo Kojima is utterly insane.

I'm not getting a Playstation 3, anyway.

If it's a joke, then I doubt many are laughing.

What other game-related stuff is going to happen, Internet?

It's several cutscenes that add up to 90 minutes, so probably 10, 20 minutes for a single cutscene I imagine., that's kind of long but not so bad.

Also, "90 minute cutscenes" is a bit misleading.

Perhaps it'll have 90 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay!

It's not like this is anything new or unbelievable.  MGS games have all clocked in at about 10-12 hours total play time, 2-3 hours actual gameplay.  The only new thing here is the length of uninterrupted movie-watching, which the series has been creeping toward from the beginning.  I'm pretty sure MGS3 had at least one 30+ minute cutscene.

If not for the precedent, I wouldn't have believed the rumor.  But, eh.

(Food for thought: clearing Portal and clearing MGS3 without cutscenes takes roughly the same amount of time)

So, it's pretty awesome.

Certainly more of a shooter than the previous games, you'll notice quickly that the setting supports that genre jump, which it does very well. Being someone that prided on beating every other game without kills (and the easiest The Sorrow fight ever) I was worried about knowing I'd have to kill at least a few people. The way the enemies are presented to you, though, killing isn't as bad as it should feel. Sure, you can go overboard, but for the most part it's presented as a battlefield where the enemy soldiers are a sacrifice for your own life, your allies' lives, and the outcome of the mission.

I can't give much more info spoiler-free suffice to say that the opening video is a T.V. You can change the channels.

So my HDMI cable apparantly stopped working on the day of Metal Gear when it had no problems whatsoever up until now.

I hate you too, God.  D:

MGS4 by the act:

Act 1: Hey, remember how videogames work?

Act 2: Ok, we should probably start with the plot now.

Act 3: Draaaamaaaaaa.

Act 4: Hey, remember that time...

Act 5: Oh, right the plot we were talking about.

Epilogue: Go make a sandwich first.

Started just after 7am, ended just before 2am. There were a couple crashes and backtracks, and I took a shower in there somewhere.

But really, no.

Metal Gear Solid 4: I basically could not have asked for anything more.

(except maybe some gameplay)

Yeah, would have been nice to actually play a bit more.

Being someone that prided on beating every other game without kills (and the easiest The Sorrow fight ever) I was worried about knowing I'd have to kill at least a few people.

I also prefer tranquilizing over killing whenever possible, and I'm sure going to try a playthrough like that, but I wonder just how successful it'll be. Maybe I'll just buy the Mosin Nagant ASAP and try to hide or something.

Act IV was the best.
Reaching the helipad, and then the music starts playing... the clincher for me was seeing that first "Surveillance camera?!" fall down. And of course, REX vs. RAY.
