Mayor Create! Characters
« on: June 12, 2008, 01:54:39 PM »

Update: The following were characters originally proposed by Skull Club members for The Mayor Videogame.

Please feel free to use this thread to cook up new areas.

No promises on what will be used in the new narrative, but pretending is fun!

The Mayor / Lee-Ham

Move List:
Piledriver
Decision Makin'

Dr. Snuffleopolis / Brentai + Arc

The Mayor's assistant. More a blob of fur than a dog, continually attempts to join the party in subtle ways, but is excluded by various means (not being able to keep up, climb ladders). We come to find he becomes an antagonist behind the scenes, but then reverts back to a protagonist NPC since the whole antagonist bent didn't work out either, with The Mayor and no one on his team the wiser.

Here's a character proposal: The Captain (pictured below). Basically, he's the Blue Ranger to The Mayor's Red Ranger -- a Lancer, basically.

My thoughts on his character would that he would constantly pick fights with The Mayor, trying to impose himself as leader (and failing). He'd also tell very, very long stories don't go anywhere.

(As for his design, I basically ripped off Lee-Ham's Mayor and turned him into Hemmingway).

Token McHealer (new name pending)
The token priestess in light-colored robes.  Joins the party in the Church of the Crystal Dragon Jesus, where the priestesses make a unanimous decision to foist her onto The Mayor so she can spread the good word about the generic psuedo-Judeo-Christian fantasy religion and as blatant pandering to the religious demographic on The Mayor's part.

Would optimally wield a two-handed axe that looks entirely too large for her to use.  Also, would not actually be the designated party healer so much as the party tank/damage dealer.  Also also, potential romantic interest.  Which goes without saying, but y'know.

Four of the playable characters should be men, four should be women, and one should be an androgynous robot trap for both sides.

Why did you take down that sketch of Hunny Fuckable, DN? Reminded me of Yoko Ritona, minus the killer ponytail.

Because it was terrible and somewhat embarrassing to have up. I'll put it up again.

ALSO: I like Ohak's idea, because I could work it into one of my own. See, I was trying to figure out how to work in a girl with a cardboard box on her head.

So she's a generic healer who doesn't want people knowing she's working with The Mayor, so she's wearing a cardboard box on her head. When you ask her what her name is, she quickly exclaims "I'm definitely NOT Token McHealer".

Chief Economist
Basically a wizard.  Seeing as economics is a crazy pile of virtually unprovable gobbledegook just like magic.  Prone to disagreement with all.  Mostly stays in his office and is rather hard to befriend.  To do so, The Mayor must rid specific areas of the poor to "prove" Chief Economist's theories.

Edit:  Should never we without a pipe and cup of coffee.  A rather thin (or at least free of much muscle as all wizards should be), bespectacled man in a suit with one shoulder higher than the other due to a heavy briefcase in one hand.

... I'm basing him off of my own Grandfather, who was an economist himself.  He came up with the misery index and died in 1980.

A Vampire
Most powerful hidden character.  For some reason, he has three times as much backstory as any of the regular cast.

Sammy
Deadpan mafia goon. Wields baseball bat and is able to intimidate enemies into either stat drops or submission (i.e. being charmed). Believe it or not that was supposed to be a girl.

...Again, :fukit: I think my meta-fictional NPC can be re-defined a bit.

Ron D. Script(ed?)
Vaguely irksome tag-along secret character. Remains in the party and makes possible running commentary. Exists to make an normally unwinnable plot-related battle winnable by virtue of his meta-wareness (in the form of an in-battle ability), then promptly either dies or leaves the party for good.

All right, I'll quit trying to sell this twerp. So shoot me for trying to think of branching scenarios here.

The Secretary
The mayor's secretary.  Physical description: Sexy Librarian.  Can use cell phone for summons.  Possible attacks: Waiting room; enemy falls asleep, possible chance of insta-kill.  Typewriter; pulls out a tommy gun and fires randomly at all enemies.  Your Coffee, Sir; Health-up/stat boost.

Sammy is a very likely character to be joined with at The Totally Legitimate Casino.  :slow:

From a session with Max:

Professor Rich McBillionton
An old as dirt mentor to the Mayor, found in The Mayor's Tower. An expert on The Poor (can give hints on Beasties).

Goldie
Blonde Bar Maid that The Mayor likes just for her name.

United States of President
The nemesis of The Mayor, found in a green vat aboard the Laboratory Air Fortress. Design is of a tentacled monster, best represented by this image:

Weak to Magic Bullet.

e-M0
The Cyborg / Android / Robot of the group, which fears it is slowly becoming a weapon. It is, with each new upgrade. No one sympathizes.

"Go cry, e-m0 bot."
"I am not capable of crying... Which makes me even sadder. 010101110"

Quest involves unlocking emotion chip, which only makes it sadder. Is the shooter character, and can use Magic Bullet.

So I was thinking that The Mayor is the result of quarter pound of Kobe Beef Steak giving immaculate birth. Thoughts?

Okay, I'm working on the design as we speak, but I came up with a new character. Her name is Ferry Cherry, and she'd ideally come into play during the The Mayor Goes to Hell scenario. Ferry Cherry is the utterly adorable, ample-breasted ferryman of the dead. Naturally, she falls in love with The Mayor.

By the way, her name is a play on Charon, the mythological Greek ferryman. And yes, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to go to hell for that name.

EDIT: picture drawn. thought she should show some nipple. she doesn't have to, though.

Two Questions:  1) Are all characters thus far approved? and if not which are/aren't?
                       2) Is Sammy male or female?  This thread has me thinking female, and Graphics is making me think otherwise.

Based on my second question, I'll gladly to a slight redesign (although I'm not in the traditional artists team officially) to make Sammy's gender more clear, or more androgynous.  No matter what the outcome, Sammy's current sprite is fine the way it is.

Sammy is a great character that I am THIS close to approving, but I'm drawing up some more reference files to round him out with. Could use a last name too, even if it is never used.

I've approved United States of President & Dr. Snuffleopolis, and Lee-Ham will be producing concepts for them in time.

It also, I feel, bears mentioning that all the drawings I've posted so far are simply sketches that I've spent at most 15 minutes each on, and are all very much subject to change at the whims of myself or Arc or at the suggestion of anyone else.

MAJOR ADDENDUM: And also, if you have an idea for a character or monster but no artistic ability whatsoever, just tell me about it and I'll sketch it out for you.

I was shooting for a girl when I first made her, but it turned out to be a lot harder to convey butch girl through super-deformed sprites than I'd thought. Couldn't work up the lips and thin out the chin enough, and the hair ended up looking a lot shorter than in the concept. Think I'll leave her as a guy for the time being, as sort of a scrawny brit goon, then if we find ourselves in a vaginadrought by the time the final character list has been hammered out, I'll castrate the sprite a bit.

Anyways:
Leech
Creepy garbage ninja. Throws VHS tapes like shuriken and can spawn small, low-HP avatar flies until the end of the battle, each doing slightly less-to-half as much damage as her melee. Ideal for long-winded boss fights.

...She is a girl.
