Mayor Create! Locations
« on: June 12, 2008, 03:11:38 PM »

Update: The following were locations originally proposed by Skull Club members for The Mayor Videogame.

Please feel free to use this thread to cook up new areas.

No promises on what will be used in the new narrative, but pretending is fun!

Right, I was envisioning four islands (North, South, East West) for the four paths, a central island for The Mayor's Tower, and a grand Laboratory Air Fortress for the final path.

Hooverpit
Basically an ever-descending corkscrew pit of a slum, a la Zozo. There is an endless overcast/rainstorm, and most NPCs would be seedy folk wearing nothing but hollowed-out barrels with rope straps, probably missing teeth.

Foreign District
A mishmash of every conceivable bullshit stereotype of the colored man, standing solely for whatever hoighty colonial British/1920's Capitalist Elite culture doesn't. Possibly inexplicably in the desert, possibly just an endless marketplace indispersed with various doorways and such into enclosed areas.

Inverse Zozo would make a great setting for a rundown prison, in which The Mayor has to break out one of his old buddies from.

Why yes, I did just watch Kung Fu Panda, why do you ask?

T.O.K.E.N. Labs

I'll think up clever words for the acronym later. A very expensive, somewhat unexplained research area with various sub-levels to run enemy experiments in, and each level is a seemingly required environment for a video game (lava, ice, etc.). Possibly the game's Final Fantasy VI Veldt.

The Totally Legitimate Casino
A house of gambling that is not connected in any way, shape or form to the local organized crime syndicates.  Really.  Even if it were, it definitely wouldn't be connected to the Socialist Mafia, who would use rigged games to con rich people out of their money so they could redistribute it to the poor.  Because they aren't.  Because it isn't.

Hell
The inevitable conclusion to which all damnable souls are to suffer. It's seen better days, though; you see, due to an aggressive marketing campaign, business structure, and simply better location, the newer, edgier underworld (of which The Mayor owns much of its stock) has all but put Hell itself out of business. They're basically hemorrhaging money down there, and you easily can tell. Oh, sure, the Gates of Hell look great and terrifying and all, but the inner circles have all pretty much gone to shit. I mean, the anal pears have all rusted shut, the cattle prods barely tingle your testicles, etc., -- frankly, it's kind of embarrassing.

The Mayor's City

Starting town. Fulfill certain quests and you can get buildings added to it that have features and minigames maybe.

The Senate

Assuming the whole dealing with bills and senators stuff is somehow a part of the game.  An endless sea of desks that occasionally have people in them, arguing until time stops.  Somewhere in here is a magic gavel that makes people shut up and listen to the wielder.

The Tutorial Room

One of those god damned rooms that tries to teach you an aspect of the game even though you've played a dozen fucking RPGs.  Option to instigate fights with the people teaching you things, and make them die.

The Sewers, The God Damn Ocean, The Mayor's Tower, and The Totally Legitimate Casino have been approved.

The Socialist Mafia angle is fantastic. Filling the casino up with machines that do nothing but rip the player off is ideal.

From a session with Max:

Golden Train
Public Transportation made for the rich, conducted by butlers, with a Turkey Dinner and Goblets of Red Wine at every seat. It is overthrown by The Poor, and must be taken back, car by car (repeating design FTW).

Civic Landfill Mountain
Home to an order of Ninja Monks who have taken vows of poverty. A grueling fight to the top ensues, as radioactive monsters arise from the mountain, mutated from nuclear waste The Mayor allowed to be dumped there.

Mayor's Tower
A monolithic entity that blots out the sun. Starting hub. More repeating design. Holds the Mayor's Office, Penthouse, Tutorial Room. Elevator with unlockable floors once zones are finished.

Laboratory Air Fortress
Final Area. One part Black Omen, one part Mana Fortress. Holding place of Animal 57, and the other 56 Animals. Crazy Scientist Robots roam the labs, and multitudes of blurry stasis tubes that can be examined, describing the horrid monsters that are created in the Nightmare Fuel topic.

"Not sure how, but it appears that mobieus strip in the tank just smiled at you."

Turns out this where all the monsters you have been fighting throughout your quest came from. Complete with obvious self-destruct switch, that is so large it can be stood on. Crashes vertically onto the top of The Mayor's Tower.

Redshirtsburg
A quaint, lazy little rustic village which serves no other function than to explode. Violently. Maybe multiple times.

Tits to Gabriel for the name.

I think I like The Tutorial Room quite a bit. Perhaps we could have rewards for either putting up with the instructions or killing the "instruction god" or what-have-you?

Ginasium
A seemingly innocent liquor store that plays host to an underground lair for The Poor. Here, clutching to darkness and secrecy like opportunistic vermin, they hone their skills of defecating in gardens and annoying noble, innocent capitalists to a fine, lethal art form. The Mayor, after confronting their invasions and raids in other locales, seeks out their nest and finishes them off here.

Wait.  So it's like a secret assassin's guild, only instead of killing people, they annoy the bourgeoisie?

Internet Pipeline
Pirates have been siphoning the Mayor's e-funds! Accessible only by tearing the front off the bank's courtesy online banking computer CRT (the one they got by the coffee machine) and plowing head-first into the PORTAL, the internet pipeline is an enormous neon virtual river of numbers indispersed with small coastal communities of quirky and mentally-troubled webfolk. Combat could play out in a Bannon Fallsey sorta on-rails deal, during which a little minigame/button combo crops up during a broadside, success allowing you to rope on, board, and battle on deck (in the traditional turn-based battle) before hopping back on the boat and leaving their crippled vessel to the datasharks.

This is mostly just an extended excuse to have pirates in our game.

Mausoleum of the Mad Mechanist
An ancient tomb of clockwork horrors, built by a man who spent his entire life planning and engineering his own grave.
