I DID. YOU JERK.

The soakers out now are child's play. No pressure gauges, and hard to fit under a faucet. The knockoff Water Warrior line muddied the market, and once the Monster XL was released, the arms race was over.

If Hasbro would bring back the classic Larami designs and add in the new trigger and pressure systems, they'd be back in business.

There was a brand of water gun that involved pulling back a long plunger of some sort, lock into place, and when the trigger was pulled it would unleash one giant gush of most of its contents.  I cannot recall what they were.  They were pretty much the chemical warfare of hand-held waterguns.

What the heck is this?  The current waves have a 'special' model called arctic blast that you put ice cubes in?  I'm sorry, but we did this already.  Typically we did this against the lower income family kids whose water weapons were empty windex bottles that were not fully cleaned out, so they kind of stinged when you got hit in the eye.

All the neighborhood kids had sentai-team toys.

I had a Vehicle Voltron, but not a Lion Voltron.

And yet there was a steady influx of good American toys.  Construx, legos,

Legos are Danish.

I had a full cachet* of Super Soakers to arm my friends/targets with, but they generally went unused as I also happened to have a pool.  Any attempt at a water war would just inevitably end within 5 minutes with a court martialing and THIS IS SPARTA! style execution.  Oddly enough I think we even used that line.  Yes, 15 years before the movie came out.

Also had a full cachet* of Laser Tag setups which went unused for a lot of very good reasons.  My mother liked to talk a lot about how she wouldn't let me have any toy that was a gun when I was growing up.  I never really had the heart to tell her that almost EVERY toy I had was a gun.  My action figures were guns, my playsets were guns, my robots turned into guns, the Powerjet from Captain Power was a fucking gun, and even that weird sluggy ghost from Ghostbusters that they bought for me was a gun (you squeeze it and it fires ghosts.)  EVERYTHING WAS A GUN.  The only things I had that weren't guns were people that gibbed easily (I owned a lot of Crash Dummies and at least three Kill the Umpire dolls.)

Ahhh, the toys topic.

I had a whole pile of He-Man figures and stuff. None of the big bases though, mind you. I did have the Hordak slime pit, which I'm pretty sure was recycled in a later Mattel property. My cousins had pretty much the whole line. Lucky jerks.

My brother and I had all three Centurions, but the dog chewed them to bits. Same with my Sectaurs guys, except for the motorized fly-glove and squirting bug. Haha, I had the original Battle-Damaged Riker and Smoking Jacket Picard from the TNG line. I still have Hero Quest too. It's what I practiced painting minis on.

Super Soakers! We both had a S.S. 100. Practical and economic, without any goofy gimmicks. Like Brentai, we weren't allowed gun-toys that looked like guns, hence no Megatron or GI Joes. Like we needed guns to hurt each other. I've probably told the story about how I had to get stitches because my brother bashed me in the head with rocks on two separate occasions... but I... can't remember, for some reason....

Legos are Danish.

See, now, Legos survived all my other toys, no matter how many times I cut my gums trying to separate the pieces. I was buying them into high school, and my friend and I were using them in this long-running gamestory starring the ragtag garrison of a distant planet. Periodically, dimensional portals would open up and disgorge new equipment or villains for them. The most memorable of these villains was the Captain Power action figure, aka Mister Gold. I stopped collecting legos right before they started releasing those awesome looking safari sets. Course after that there was nothing but licensed properties and Bionicle. Bleh.

As much as I loved my SS100, the SS50 is the pure soaker. One single barrel, and it held together better than the SS100. Far more players owned one, and was the only model to sell extra barrels. Once the later tech came in, the battlefield became excessive. Look at those fantastic colors too. No odd purples and grays that dominated the lineups in generations after to be seen here.

Everyone who speaks of this says as much. The Mighty Cannon seems too small to meet the description, and the SplashZooka came in later. Hmmmmm. Could it be a non-SS?

Yeah, it was non-SS, and thanks to that site I am now looking it up..  Turns out the unit I described earlier that I had was the SS 200, not the 300.  Looking up the splash cannon now.

edit:  Can't find it on that site, drat.

For some reason I wasn't think that LEGOs counted because..I thought they were old old.  I dunno.  But I had tons of boxes of legos, and I recall the thing I wanted most of any lego set were the girl lego sets that were very retarded-hard to find, and I only ever bought one set through the catalog that I had sent to me seasonally for whatever reason.  It was awesome.  I think I wanted the girl sets because they had cool female lego people, they had neat glasses and food item pieces, and they had dolphins and parrots and pastel pieces.  I never did get a dolphin set, because those were super expensive sets that had them ;-;

I was also very big into the aquanaut sets because they had shark pieces, and I liked the large pirate sets that I never got because they were far too expensive.  My first set ever was a Wolfpack castle with a dragon, and it was amazing, and I built it all by myself, but then I pulled it apart after wanting to take out just one piece.  I did that a lot.  Rip apart one set for one piece.

I also TMNT action figures, but none of the super cool accessories like their van with the pizza shooter.  My cousin had it though, so I still got to play with all that crap.

And I remember when Jurassic Park came out, all I ever wanted for toys that year were the battle damage dinos.  I remember wanting them SO damn bad, and I never got any.  It was sad times.  I wanted the capture vehicles and the battle damage t-rex and stegosaurus.

Huh.

My parent's house probably has about $50 000 worth of Lego sets in it. That and books was all my brother and I wanted as kids.

The Technic seaplane with the 2.5' wingspan was is fucking badass, but there's nothing like actually having enough town sets to build a a whole city... and then destroying it utterly in a giant car chase that gets massively out of control.

Again...

and again...

and again...

It was DINO DAMAGE damn it.

And yes, the SS50 was the classic, and I don't think anything ever beat its beautiful simplicity.

The van and the pizza shooter were actually different vehicles.

...It probably sounds like I'm just nitpicking everyone's posts in this thread.  But I'm trying to contribute.

I mostly just collected TMNT action figures as a kid. I had the sewer hideout set, which came with one of the "Secret Sewer Maps". I ended up playing with that damn map way more than the toy. I would take pieces of paper and draw my OWN maps that connected to the piece of map that came with the set, and eventually I would just start drawing my own maps of tunnels and sewers and secret passages.

In fact, it's not a show on MSNBC at all.
Exactly.

And all the talk of super Soakers makes me feel so lower-middle-class. I didn't have anything brand-name, but my cache of dollar store, leaky, fill-from-the-back, little stub that always broke off guns let me arm the whole block whenever shenanigans happened.
