I think the best part is he has a gun arm AND a laser pistol.

Oh, also, apparently the Capcom staff at E3 were wearing t-shirts with that image.

That's where the image is from.  The game won't be sold in a box, so I'm not sure what else it could be.

Apparently the staff made no indication that these shirts would be publicly available, but we can pray.

God, if we saw this back in the era of Megaman 2 or so...would Megaman be where it is today?

Probably, but still.  It's totally kitschy in its nostalgia.

I think the best part is he has a gun arm AND a laser pistol.

That's why I couldn't crop it down any more for my avatar.  That HAD to be preserved.

(Also I should have made a weapon-stealing joke when I made it my avatar.)

God, if we saw this back in the era of Megaman 2 or so...would Megaman be where it is today?

I'm not actually sure what you mean by that question.  "Where it is today" as in glutted by spinoffs?  As in original series abandoned for a decade?  As in a major, still-recognizable franchise?

I mean, say that Megaman died at Megaman 2, and they came back to it almost 20 years later.

Well, actually, my point's kinda derpy.  Megaman 2 was a great hit, so of course they wouldn't have stopped there.  maybe Megaman 5.  Anyway...I don't know where I was going with that.

Oh yeah.

I remember when Parish was talking about Megaman's box art during the Megaman Retronauts episode, and Megaman 1's box art turned him off from buying it.

Yeah, like you say, still wouldn't be much different.  7 and 8 weren't exactly earthshattering.

As one of the commenters on Parish's post said, I would love to have this as an actual NES cartridge with that pic on it.  But I really, really doubt that the game's going to be an NES ROM just because it has NES graphics and sound.

The NES doesn't have an 8-Bit Fidelity Engine.

Stepping back a bit:

Like Niku said, you'll probably be able to buy the slide (and/or a grabber item) at the store.

I don't like the idea of the slide being a purchase.  If bolt supply is finite, that brings us back to the "what do I have to give up to get the slide?" question; if bolt supply is infinite, that raises the spectre of pointless grinding.

One of the things MM7 did right was that anything you could buy at the store could also be found.  (What it did very, very wrong was that finding it usually entailed using Rush Search in a non-obvious location.)  One of the things MM&B did right was giving you a large quantity of bolts for every boss beaten, which helped minimize grinding.

Grabber could be a purchase, but could just as easily be a Robot Master weapon.

But I really, really doubt that the game's going to be an NES ROM just because it has NES graphics and sound.

Especially since it will be released on PSN and XBLA, and Nintendo would probably not be too keen on Capcom selling NES emulators on other platforms.

...Holy crap, you're right.

I'd say it would be a good call for a Halloween costume, but I already did it when I was 10.  This one kid addressed me as "Underwear Man" for two years after that.

That's kind of ironic, considering that you'd be in Rocky Horror shows years later
