Wait, does Hero Mode change up the stages?  I figured it would just make Mega Man as papery as Proto.

You don't take more damage and enemies don't have any more HP, but there are more enemies overall and sometimes the placement is different. For example, in Concrete Man's level:
the first elephant is the one with the bouncing ball (so the ladder is useless), and the other two have the normal rolling red balls... but those annoying birds that drop rocks on you fly by the entire time.
However, in Splash Woman's stage:
there were just a few more enemies that didn't really add any new difficulty.
Those are the only two I've done so far.

Beat it.

True to form, levels in this game become trivial once you've cleared them the first time.  I pretty much just blew through the first bits of Skull Castle.
1-Up Hat Mac :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Really well-executed.
When you see 3 1-Ups, you KNOW something's wrong and it's a trap.  And then when the other one shows up, you immediately suspect it.
Ending thoughts: :disapprove: to
Bass tease
.  Also,
if the point of the game is to take the series back to its pre-4 days, how the FUCK come it's the same final form for Wily as in the last five games?
Also also,
Mega Man shows Wily 9 defeats.  The first 6 are pretty clearly the first 6 games, I THINK the next is 7, the one after that should presumably be 8, but...why are there 9?  Is it one of the Game Boy games?  One of the arcade fighters?
And
Proto's true to form: he knows exactly what's going on but doesn't actually do anything but call Mega Man stupid and then save him when he almost gets his stupid ass killed.
Other than that, I LOVE the
stills of each boss
.

Is Proto, or are any of the other DLC bits, worth getting?  I have a couple bucks left on my account.

Only get Proto Man if you really need to play Proto Man.  He's made of paper and his powers are useless.

Of course, you could also call it a challenge mode, but I can't imagine trying to get through Wily's Shit with double damage and no option to buy a crapload of E-Tanks.

The Endless Mode, at least, is fun and interesting since none of the challenges that I can recall are repeats from the main game.

I particularly liked the "impossible" jump in Galaxy Man's stage.  That's almost IWBTG level of design obtuseness.

This problem can be alleviated by doing Plug Man's stage over and over. Then again, I'm better at Heat Man blocks than most.

Grinding? In my Mega Man? It's more likely than you'd think.

Finally downloaded along with Penny Arcade Episode 2. The only Megaman games I've ever played before were Megaman Legends and X: Command Mission. As you can imagine, I suck balls at this game. Can't even get past Galaxy Man.

In reverse order, if you don't want to be beaten up so badly.

Megaman X was definitely the first game in the series I found to be possible. The rest followed suit.

I remember Thad commenting something about sense memories and having 7 Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 3 before Hilltop Zone.  I have a similar relationship with Mega Man X.

Chill Penguin
Storm Eagle (collect helmet upgrade, Subtank, and Heart Tank)
Flame Mammoth (collect buster upgrade, subtank, and heart tank, go back to Chill Penguin and get heart tank)
Spark Mandrill (collect heart tank)
Armored Armadillo (heart tank and subtank)
Launch Octopus (heart tank)
Boomer Kuwanger (use the charged Shotgun Ice sled to get the heart tank, go back to Spark Mandrill and get subtank)
Sting Chameleon (get armor upgrade and heart tank)
And then, if I'm feeling saucy, I go to Armored Armadillo and farm extra lives and get the Hadouken, then go kill Sigma.  I once killed Sigma's final form with the Hadouken, which is tricky.

I do all this in about 2 hours.

It's also probably the most satisfying thing you can do in the game, to be quite honest.

Megaman X is the first Megaman game I actually owned personally.

Up until this time, I had only played Megaman 2 and 3 by borrowing from friends, and when I got my SNES and was poking through the rental aisle of Blockbuster (which is also where I discovered Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy II/IV), and saw Megaman X and I was "Oh, neat.  I remember playing Megaman 2 and stuff."  I rented that and got it home and immediately when I started it up, I was blown away by how much of an improvement over Megaman 3 it was (I was a huge proponent of the charge shot, being as I never experienced any of the NES versions of it).  Megaman X was one of my defining moments of the 16-bit era.

I killed everything I could in MMX1 with the hadoken. I even had a perfect pattern down to kill Velgarder and Sigma Form 1 as quick aas possible with the hadoken (The trick with Velgarder is to wait a SPLIT SECOND when you get control of X before firing. Velgarder's first action is to always leap up and onto the wall behind you, and then back down. By waiting that split second, he lands right on the Hadoken.

Yeah, I've hit Velgarder with it.  I think I've killed every boss with the Hadouken.

Try not to Hadoken any bosses on your way through the intro stage!
