Catwoman is named dropped heavily.
Usually with a "please don't make her a prostitute" caveat.

Looking over my copy, and yes, I 'd, since I read the issue back in February of '07, and then heard about the contents of the diary exactly a year later, but never connected the two. It was released around the time Ledger was prepping the role, and is indeed verbatim.

You must have skimmed over this bit:
Quote from: TFA
In it, there's a list of what would make the Joker laugh – including AIDS, landmines, geniuses suffering irreversible brain damage, brunch, and sombreros. "It gave me this chill," Grant Morrison said, because it was word-for-word what Morrison had written in one of his Batman stories.

Good to hear the better Bat Works are selling, yet Dark Victory could stand to be mentioned alongside Long Halloween more often.

I'd like to hear whether it's having any impact on, say, Chronicles vol 1, which includes the Joker's first appearance.  The whole "taunting the police by telling them who he's going to kill and then killing them anyway, even under guard" bit is from that.

Soooooo... I'm not going to link to the pages I saw it on, but apparently these some nonsense making teh rounds that Angelina Jolie has been pegged as a potential Catwoman.

And has been consulting with a porn starlet for acting tips for the role.

God help us all if any of that's even half-true.

#679: Hoo boy.

The story's coming together, and Morrison wasn't kidding when he said it would combine everything he'd done so far: this issue has the Club of Heroes, Zur en Arrh, and the Joker with the black-and-red theme.  The only major pieces who are still conspicuous in their absence are Talia and Damian -- and the latter was teased last ish ("Boy Wonder vs. Son of Batman!").  Well, and Nightwing sits this issue out too; presumably still drugged and imprisoned in Arkham.

Dr. Hurt finally gives himself a name; Alfred isn't buying it.  My "Alfred is the big bad" theory seems to be taking a beating here, but I'm still not going to rule out a tie-in to the split-personality villain Alfred stories from the 1950's.  Morrison HAS teased that the big bad is a character who everybody knows.

Speaking of stories from the 1950's, I found an LJ page with scans of The Batman of Zur en Arrh.

It's still unclear whether the Black Glove is an individual or an organization.  Hurt seems to be self-applying the name at one point, but it's uncertain.

Looking forward to the next one.

I clicked on this expecting some sort of Dark Knight / Fig Newton cross-promotion.

So, okay.  I am Netflixing the fourth season of The Batman, because from what I had read, the show got pretty good about then.  Having gotten through the first disc, I can now confirm that is the case.

Is anyone interested in discussion on the subject, or should I make it a blog post?

I picked up seasons 3-5 recently and was pleasantly surprised, even if there were some terrible voice cockteases in Robin's introduction and then in Season 5.

I giggled a little bit on the extra features when they said they made a conscious effort to tone down Joker usage and make him more meaningful and then still used him in every other episode.

The last two eps on the first disc, Strange New World and Artifacts, are just excellent, though I admit that I like them because they exploit well-worn formulas (and, in the latter case, pile on fan service).

Haven't really seen a Joker ep yet in this set; he was shown in Team Penguin and had a cameo in Clayfaces, but hasn't been a major villain as of the first disc.

Finally caught Gotham Knight (on Cartoon Network, so probably butchered to some extent, but whatever.)

I love the way they ordered the parts:
You basically have the "Batman won't wear his bullet proof shield" chapter, and then just a little bit later, a chapter that's pretty much "Batman gets shot."

And then right after that, he has a short little speech about the terrifying power of guns.

That'd be the "Batman gets shot" one, yeah.  Although I have no idea if it actually has an ending or not.
The last line of dialogue in Batman #680 is "Now do you get it?"

I can honestly say that I do not.

So, okay.  We've established
Jezebel as a baddie
.  Not really much surprise there.  So that's a possible identity for the Big Bad, the Black Glove -- still assuming the Black Glove is a person and not a group.

But gloves come in pairs, and the emphasis on red and black implies a Red Glove, or at least SOMETHING red.  I think it's probably safe to rule out Red Hood as Morrison has utterly ignored Jason in his run (there was a reference to "little red Robin" this ish, but they were clearly referring to Tim).

Tim and Alfred don't show up this issue.  And it bears repeating that Morrison has said that the big bad is a character almost everybody knows.  (Hm -- "little red" and "big bad".  Going to assume that's deliberate, but have no idea what it actually means.)

One more issue.  Looking forward to it.

I caught a commercial for the newest Batman cartoon. Not much to say about it, other than it at least looks a hell of a lot better than The Batman, and that the Blue Beetle's voice is completely terrible sounding.
