So I downloaded the first two episodes of Brave & The Bold (because I keep missing them and Cartoon Network seems allergic to the idea of airing encores of good shows).

Damn, that's an awesome show.

ADDENDUM: Also, I think it's great that they air an episode about the Blue Beetle right as his comic gets canceled.

Did he turn out to really be from Zur-En-Arrh?

Or was your prediction about the Butler Did It true?

Come on, Thad, throw us a frickin' bone here.

Here's a hint: Nothing Thad thought was correct, actually.  And the last 4 or 5 pages seem completely unrelated and explain nothing.

So, uh, as someone who doesn't follow mainstream regular-issue DC AT ALL, but who has been reading you collective enigmatic commentary for months, could someone give me the coles notes version as to what the fuck is supposedly going on?

I might not have asked if I didn't see two newspaper articles today and yesterday titled "BATMAN DIES OH NOES?".

Yeah, I'm not really concerned about spoilers and I'd rather not consult Wikipedia. Give us the skinny!

So's the issue in question.

Keeping this vague enough that I don't think it needs spoiler tags:

It's not clear whether Batman dies.  (My money is on "no".)  There's a bit about "The next time you put on the cowl will be the last", he's missing at the end, and then they cut to "six months later" implying there's A Batman active, but you don't see him and it's unclear whether it's Bruce.

There's an arc coming titled "Battle for the Cowl", and the promo art features Catwoman, Hush, and the three Robins, but there's been little info on what's actually going to happen.  The obvious guess is that Nightwing becomes Batman, but I give Morrison much more credit than that.  He's also not the guy writing the arc, so I find it unlikely that it will have any direct bearing on his stories when he comes back to the book afterward.  (Since this post is geared toward people who don't follow DC, it bears noting that last year there was a series called Countdown to Final Crisis that, as it turned out, had fuck-all to do with Final Crisis and in fact pretty much flatly and repeatedly contradicted it.)

...Actually, speaking of FC, the latest ads for it suggest IT'S going to show us what happens to Batman.

...Anyway.  In summation, I don't know any more after reading #681 than I did before reading it.  And Morrison seems to have been lying about the big bad being a character everybody's heard of, unless he was actually serious about all that shit at the end about him being
the devil
.

It did a pretty good job of tying together everything he'd done on the series to date, but I still didn't understand a word of it.

So, Morrison was on form in this issue.

One week until the TDK Blu-Ray & DVD release. Big money, no whammies. Of equal interest, a special edition of the soundtrack will be released the same day, with fifty minutes of unreleased compositions. If not for that damned packed-in dead wood, the price would be lower.

Best-selling iTunes movie of the year, just from pre-orders. For promotion, Warner Brothers has established an expansive (if direly bland) networking site, and released clips of the extras.

Fans have begun an Oscar campaign of their own:

Chicago production offices for the next film are rumored to open in February.

Theatrical re-release slated for January 23rd, one day after Oscar nominations are announced.

A cocktail party for the home video release was held this week, but acted more as an Oscar campaign shindig. Highlights include rumblings that Nolan is looking to create an original horror or western, and David Poland reports that Nolan has ruled out filming the next film entirely in IMAX, due to noise issues in the camera.

Here's a hint: Nothing Thad thought was correct, actually.

Hey Constantine -- read #682 yet?

It's titled The Butler Did It.

Anyway, quick thoughts: it's not a bad review of the major events of Batman's life and Morrison's version of continuity.  (Also, the cover has Penguin popping his monocle.)  It gets pretty Morrisony at the end, questioning what's real, and there's an unexpected twist on the last two pages that
ties into Final Crisis
.

Precisely WHAT is up with Alfred is still unexplained, but there are hints dropped, and Morrison DOES reference Alfred's death in the 1950's.

EDIT: I'm going to be very disappointed if part 2 isn't titled "He's Lump, He's Lump, He's Lump, He's In My Head".

You know, considering how wonderful every episode of Batman: Brave and the Bold has been so far, I really have to wonder why it's so hard to catch. There's the premier episode on Friday night, and the encore early next morning, and then thirty straight fuck hours of Johnny Test and 6Teen.

Are Cartoon Network execs allergic to money?
