Especially if you've got a fetish unusual and unhealthy obsession with inanimate objects or your name is Andrew Stanton.

Physical: C
Mental:C
Experience: F
Emotional: D
Overall: A

Apparently I drew all the wrong conclusions from all the zombie movies and games I've watched/played/starred in, because this says I don't know what the fuck is going on. Also apparently the only way to have "emotional integrity" is to be a suicidal, irrational fool.

Well, at least I survived somehow, despite my utter uselessness.

Edit: Looking over the "right" answers, some of these are pretty stupid. Like the checking for bites one. Sure, you want to do that eventually. But the very first thing? I'd rather make sure they can say something other than "GGNNUUGUUUUGHGH" before I get close enough to start giving them a fucking physical.

No, the most bullshit question is the one that ranks the katana behind the axe

Well, I suppose a katana does require more skill.  But that is still an awful question.  Striking distance is more important than non-battle uses in a zombie situation.  Axes are also slower to wield.

I'm not actually comparing how useful they each would be in a real zombie outbreak, but yeah

A katana is not as useful as an axe.  It's a precision weapon, and requires it be strong enough to severe through the neck, usually in one strike.  This requires that it always be at it's sharpest, but it will eventually dull out after 5 or so zombies, making the slashing more tiring on you.  And unless you have a very expensive one, it'll probably break after 10 minutes of use.  No wielding that mall bought katana with the dragon hilt that you thought was soooo cool.  You lose, C.

With an axe, you're not trying to slice so much as split.  It's weighted end means most of the force goes into blunt trauma, rather than trying to make a precise incision.  So that way you don't have to be as accurate and can actually just aim for the head, rather than the neck.  It also won't wear out as fast, and can be used to bash down doors and cut wood. Axe wins!

Norondor is unprepared for a zombie outbreak.  I'm leaving you behind.

Everything I've learned from Call of Cthulhu suggests that Norondor is the best kind of resource to save for an escape. Slow, but a desperate fighter when cornered, his real use to a survivor party is "meat offering" to an advancing horde.

Katanas would be pretty shit, since the only kind you'll ever find are decorative wallhangers made from crap steel.

A machete, however, would be pretty decent.

I suppose quality of product would be invariably important.  An axe that flies off it's handle is useless.  As would a dull machete.  Or an unreliable chainsaw.

I think grenades are not useless because they would disable the legs of many zombies.

Dead Rising should be proof enough that chainsaws are not effective weapons but instead merely a weapon of mass satisfaction.

I'd take an axe over a katana. On one hand, the sword is a hell of a lot less likely to make you waste seconds getting it unstuck from something's neckbone, because really, it evolved over the course of centuries to be really good at not getting stuck in people you're cutting up.

On the other, an axe (or hatchet) is less unwieldy, works better in narrow spaces, doesn't need maintainence or a razor sharp edge, requires less training and precision, and the important bit: It's useful for more than one thing. You will not be using a katana to break down doors or chop firewood. An axe is an indispensable tool with multiple uses in addition to being a handy weapon, and you'll need to be carrying one anyway. More than a little important when you'll want to minimize the amount of weight you're lugging around. See also: crowbar, entrenching tool.

Also, grenades generally kill or disable people by perforating their organs with shrapnel. If they're not using those organs it's kind of not a big deal. You'll have a better chance of hitting something's brain with damn near anything else, and a hell of a lot less likely to injure yourself and others. Same thing with land mines, which mostly mangle legs and/or genitals, forcing an enemy to waste time and resources evacuating the injured (also handy in that sending home legless, dickless kids tends to erode popular support for a war.) Zombies generally don't give a shit about any of that. Fuck explosives.

Question.  Is it a hand-axe with a katana blade on top?, or is it a katana blade with an axe head at the tip?

A thick-bladed katana with an axe head on the opposite side, so if you swing it one way it's a katana but if you flip it around it's an axe.  So... the latter.
