Title: April Fools wankery
Post by: Metal Slime on April 01, 2008, 06:49:05 AM
It happens every year. The internet has a race to see who can pull off the biggest April Fools joke online.
Here's the best I've seen so far: http://movies.ign.com/dor/articles/863515/legend-of-zelda-movie-trailer/videos/legendofzelda_filmtrailer_040108.html (http://movies.ign.com/dor/articles/863515/legend-of-zelda-movie-trailer/videos/legendofzelda_filmtrailer_040108.html)
I expect most of it to die after a day so I want to see the best of it before it does.

Oh, thanks for reminding me that it is today.

ADDENDUM: Pizza Hut changing its name to Pasta Hut.  Even my spam mail thinks it's funny.

ThinkGeek has a surprisingly, and depressingly, believable one. (http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/41/superpiipii.html?cpg=70H)

And, probably old, but click on any given "Featured" link on Youtube's front page.

Also, Blizzard comes out with no less than 4 quality jokes.

The thing I hate most about some of these April Fool's stuff is that sometimes the joke stuff looks far more interesting and fun than the stuff that's real.

What I'm trying to say is that I wish the Bard class was real.

You know they'd just use bots to hit every note perfectly.

You'll note that they sound like that in SSBB as well.

Virgle. (http://www.google.com/virgle/index.html)
Funny enough, I fully expect Google to get in on this whole 'space thing' eventually.

Also, an especially unfair You Don't Know Jack (http://youdontknowjack.com/node/506) episode.

if Google devoted as much time to finishing their stuff as they do to april fools jokes, they wouldn't have half as much beta shit.
Title: Re: April Fools wankery
Post by: Thad on April 01, 2008, 04:02:51 PM
Because Google uses "beta" the same way the rest of the industry does.
Title: Re: April Fools wankery
Post by: Zaratustra on April 01, 2008, 05:57:04 PM
No, their meaning of 'beta' is more like 'we didn't really finish the interface for this but we got tired of programming so uh you guys can have it'

avast! reclassified a benign piece of JavaScript that was all over my commercial websites as a virus.

I don't think that was an April Fool's joke, but that's okay since I'm not laughing anyway.

The wood goes around the plastic.

Fuck, I might as well get some sheets of oak and paste them to my Wii.  Might fuck up my Wi-Fi a bit though.

...All the classic arcade games at the local Gameworks are wood-panelled.  Because apparently people born in the past 15 years think that's what arcade cabinets looked like in the 1980's.

I was born in the 1980s and I can tell you they were cheap plastic.

The "dont joke about this shit" comment really hammers home that pokemon is considered a taboo topic of mirth. Akin to HIV or the (Real) Drug War(s)*.

*Not to be confused with the "War on Drugs".

Nnnnnnnot really, no.  It's referring to the fact that a lot of schools are offering courses, for credit, in a lot of really inane shit.  Like an entire course on Twin Peaks, or The Office, or knitting.

Watermelon Games changes name to Banana Games, in single greatest example of why you should Google a phrase before naming your company after it.

edit: oh right. remembered date; nm. :whoops:

(Banana Games is the name of a futanari comic. Do not Google it at work. In fact, I wouldn't advise googling it from anywhere.)

I was just making a joke in poor taste, but...
TA...
Why is knitting "inane" or something that shouldn't be taught in higher education for credit?

Also, who is teaching a course about Twin Peaks? I'd be curious in seeing their syllabus.

I love knitting, but I don't think most handcrafts are worth a collage course for credit. History of knitting would fit into a course on fabric production, though.

I never would have got that as a joke. That was the state of their 60s Star Trek cover for, what, a couple years? I think my eyes would have logged it as "Netflix is fucking screwy" and continued on. But yeah, on reflection it should have gone in the "Netflix is goddamn cruel" box.

Those categories aren't really that much stranger than their regular categories.

...I know, I know. :joke: I'll show myself out.

(Also: "Television" is not a fucking genre, damn it.)

It does serve as a useful dividing line for me a lot of the time though.
It's basically a collection of items that runs at half-or-less of feature length.

Post by: Thad on April 03, 2013, 07:39:33 PM
I'm not saying there shouldn't be some sort of useful separator between TV and movies.

I'm just saying TV is not a fucking genre.  If you're looking for something similar to The Dick Van Dyke Show, Swamp People is not fucking equivalent.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be some sort of useful separator between TV and movies.

If nothing else, the ability to create multiple queues would be nice.  Or at the very least have a separate TV/Movie queue.  They're kind of all jumbled up for me right now.

Why yes I am posting that here instead of Netflix's suggestion box.
